Operation Epic Dawn – Relaunching Epic Armageddon tournaments in Berlin, Germany

On November 8th and 9th, players from all across Germany met up in central Berlin for a two day Epic tournament. The first of a new series of interregional tournaments to strengthen the scene.

With last preparations done on Friday and months of terrain building and painting done, last weekend marked if not the biggest, but certainly the most important event of the year.

Out of curiosity to see how many active or dormant Epic Armageddon players were still around, a friend of mine and I decided to launch a tournament earlier this year. Having paused and sold most of my collection at some point over the last ten years or so, we had to start from scratch.

Early in June, I started on a multi-month building- and painting-spree, to get multiple tables worth of cityfight and industrial terrain built, detailed, and painted. All aside from building my own tournament army.

We prepared a variety of tables with varying terrain styles. A desert themed industrial drill site, an urban centre with both intact buildings and ruins, a settlement in a swampy marsh, some old school Adeptus Titanicus civitas units amidst fields and a river and more.

As awards, we had painted airships on branded black marble plinths for first and second place, as well as the last stand award for the worst performing player and best colours for the community pick of the best army. The airships were magnetised to allow for more creative endeavours at home.

Over two days, both veterans and new players diced it out through four games each. Ultimately we had varying degrees of success, but everyone caught the train home with a smile on their face.

Awards went to players from Göttingen, Hanover and Berlin. Mission: successful and it won’t have been the last tournament we’ve hosted, that’s for sure.
