Late last year, I got back into Epic after a six years hiatus. A few months into this year, a buddy and I decided to take a shot at launching our own Epic tournament. We weren’t sure if anyone would still be interested, but surely there was no better way to reconnect Epic hobbyists throughout Germany.

The initial problem was that I had sold my entire collection over the years, with the last army being sold just a few months before getting back into the hobby. A shout out to whoever bought my Dark Eldar: It would be lovely to see you again at a tournament in Hanover or Berlin in 2026.

Back to the challenge at hand: there was a severe shortage in terrain. I had barely enough generic terrain to fill a table, let alone enough to fill 5-6 gaming tables worth of terrain. My friend has about two tables worth of terrain, so I went on to purchase a stupid amount of 6mm scale ruins, buildings and scatter terrain from various sources.

I spent about three months cutting, cleaning, paint stripping, reassembling, basing and painting a huge lot of terrain. The colours were meant to be compatible with three types of game mat: desert, swamp/marsh and urban warfare.

Picking colours and shades that were present in all three of my existing game mats, the pieces ended up being highly interchangeable. These were the results …
