Aeronautica Imperialis has been one of Games Workshop’s spin off games that impressed me the most over the course of the last few years. The highly detailed airplane models are just superb, albeit partially very fiddly to put together.
The rules system is constructed around a hex based board with a set of manoeuvres, combined with speed and altitude. The sleek rules system is elegant and offers very high replayability. Currently, only the Horus Heresy factions are supported, but I highly recommend you snatching a box set with some additional planes for some gorgeous display models and a brilliant bookshelf game.
Painting up the original box set, I got myself a selection of additional planes for the imperial and Ork faction. Being part of the same box, I had to make sure both factions were distinct, but still harmonious next to each other. To achieve this, I used a simple colour ratio swap.
The primary color for the perks was pale blue with some red stripes as an accent colour. Red is faster, you know 😉
