Minimorka – the joy of making Gorkamorka 6 mm mayhem

Gorkamorka was a Games Workshop skirmish game in the tradition of Necromunda or Mortheim. Set on an apocalyptic desert planet, the game takes Mad Max to another level, with Orks, Gretchin, Muties and Diggas in ramshackle vehicles centre stage.

Back in 2021, I decided to get a copy of Gorkamorka off ebay. After years on the shelves, and space getting scarce, I tinkered with the idea of shrinking the game similar to Minihammer.

Other skirmish games like Necromunda or Mortheim would not be playable in 6mm, due to minis being barely maneuverable on a densly packed table full of terrain. One just has to imagine trying to place individual 6mm models in dense cover on the third floor of a Mortheim ruin without kicking everyhing with ones sausage fingers. Absolute impossible.

Gorkamorka however is played in a wide, mostly empty desert setting. Running some calculations, I figured, the game could be played simply taking all measurements from the original rulebook and replacing inches with centimetres. The game mat becomes a kill team mat and the templates were scaled down to match the new measurements.

In order to avoid models falling over, I placed infantry on 1 ct coins. The only rule that proved to be close to impossible to scale down was representing the models on vehicles. Therefore, I designed vehicle cars, with slots for driver, gunner and the cargo space. This makes the game slightly more abstract, butcertainly playable.

The result is a highly playable fun and fast paced game one can play on a coffee table on a holiday trip, which does not wreck the bank account or require a lot of painting.

I started with some spare Epic 40k Orks to paint up two sets of Ork gangs. If you feel like trying the game, do message me and I can send you PDFs for the templates and vehicle cards.
